Grandma-optimised websites win

Twelve years of building websites taught Naoufal one thing: the easiest site to use wins. His rules, in his words.

Grandma optimised website are the best + highest converting

Naoufal

Naoufal is “obsessed with technical perfection”. He is also honest about what twelve years of numbers taught him.

The rules

From his notes, almost word for word:

  • High converting is more important than beauty.
  • The fewest clicks the user has to make, the better.
  • One page checkout works best.
  • Easiest to use wins.
  • Clear simple language wins.
  • Real content converts more. “Plz don’t edit content or try to hard.”

The grandma test

A grandma-optimised website is one a grandmother can use without help. She can find the button, read the words, and finish what she came to do. If she can, everyone can.

The uncomfortable part

Fucked website usually work - as much as I love perfection it’s a conclusion of 12years of experience - numbers don’t lie

A messy page that is clear and honest often sells more than a polished page that is confusing. Polish is for speed and clarity. Everything else is decoration.

The other view

Beauty builds trust, and a brand that looks careless can lose people before they read a word. Naoufal’s own work aims for both: perfect under the hood, simple on the surface. When the two conflict, the simple one wins.

One thing to try

Open your own website on your phone. Count the taps to the thing you want people to do. Remove one.
